If your a preteen girl than you may be familiar with the name Justin Bieber. Bieber is a Canadian pop singer and already by the age of 17 he has swept the globe. Some would even call him a teen idol. He has had many chart topping hits and has been recognized everywhere especially for his looks.
Fans of Justin Bieber were going crazy when on February 21st 2011 Justin Bieber decided that it was time to cut his hair and go for a more mature look. Fans started going crazy when Bieber sent out a tweet declaring that he was getting his hair cut. This tweet sent fans into an absolute tizzy. Would he really chop off his luscious locks that helped make him famous? People were shocked when pictures surfaced of his new hair cut.

News stations across America were covering the breaking news. Even here in Burlington Vermont it was being shown as one of the top stories on the evening news. People were tweeting, everyone had to get there say in wither the new look was better or if they wanted the old Bieber back.
Bieber decided that he was going to donate locks of his hair to people so they could donate it or raise money for a charity of their choice. Bieber went on the Ellen show on the days following his haircut and presented Ellen with a lock of his hair. Ellen decided that she was going to auction off his lock of hair on her website. The lock of hair ended up being auctioned off for $40,668. The proceeds went to the Gentle Barn Foundation.
Even though celebrities do their share of giving back to society they also bank off of it. Our society thrives on celebrities. The fact that a kid can get so famous that his haircut becomes one of the top news stories. That it becomes the top tweeted trend on twitter. That the world is in shock and the top talked stories.
What is next to come for our society?
Why does the media keep helping to fuel celebrities?
